Porvoo, a charming small town located 30 miles north-East of Helsinki

From Helsinki, we visited Suomenlinna island and the little town of Porvoo...on the same day. Suomenlinna was a military base under both Swedish (1748-1808) and Russian (1808-1918) era. The military role of the fortress declined after World War II. Suomenlinna was inscribed into the Unesco World Heritage list in 1991.
We got surprised by torrential rain that day as we were walking on the island. Not the best morning in Scandinavia!

And the rain started......

The weather improved, so we went by bus to Porvoo

We had tea at Amanda's cafe

Who believed that Finnish would be an easy language to learn?

Easier than Swedish?

May be not...although someone told us that there are quite fewer words in the Finnish vocabulary in comparison to the Norwegian or Swedish vocabulary.
Just read that "Finnish is the eponymous member of the Finnic language family and is typologically between fusional and agglutinative languages". Sounds right :))

In the bus back to Helsinki

Another beautiful crane

And what did we discover walking through the streets of Helsinki at the end of the afternoon....another virtual Pokemon hot spot!

And no confusion here.....Glenn is only hunting for Airbnbs!
