Another beautiful Scandinavian capital: Helsinki, Finland

We took the Omnibus to go from Turku to Helsinki (2 hr trip). The bus had wifi and outlets to recharge electronics....perfect and very comfortable.
Helsinki, although not quite as pittoresque as Stockholm, was nice to visit. One of the highlights in Helsinki was the Kiasma Contemporary Art museum. Really fun and interactive exhibits both for children and adults.

Bus ride to Helsinki

Greasy good lunch at the bus station in Helsinki

Helsinki

Aren't cranes beautiful and elegant? Straight lines, reaching to the sky. Posing with dignity on chaotic construction sites.

Cranes....not always straight lines??! Still beautiful.

The Kiasma Contemporary Art Museum

First an exhibit from Brazilian Ernesto Neto who emphasizes playfulness and viewer participation and wants to give viewers time for relaxation and breathing. He has great interest in the culture of indigenous Huni Kuin people from the Amazon rainforest.

The Second exhibit was from Korean artist Choi Jeong Hwa who combines mass-produced objects in his art. He uses cheap consumer products to create plastic paradises! His work celebrates the everyday beauty of plastic while also pointing how excessive materialism and urbanisation disconnects us from nature.

Yes, in Finland pigs do fly!

Back to the streets....blond, blond, blond, blond

Blond, blond, purple!

Purple, blue!

"Different is beautiful! Today we celebrate the difference"

  1. Hi Brigitte! I loved Turku (had dinner at the castle) and went to a grand spa there many years ago. Even saw a dragon boat race on river in Turku. Your pictures from the Bus from Turku to Helsinki brought back fun memories of my trip there (for work-MEDX even!). I hung up my art tiles that I bought in Helsinki and was just admiring them. Helsinki is where I first had the Finnish squeaky cheese & fell in love with Moomin! And loved the sculptures you took pics of and that I saw when I was there. Great memories, thanks for the walk down memory lane! Go purple (hair!)!!!
