Antarctica (2) - Half Moon Island, one of the South Shetland Islands

We crossed the Drake Passage. Luckily for us, the weather was good and the ocean was relatively quiet. We got the "Drake lake" version (mild weather - to be compared to the "Drake shake" version/ moderate weather with 6-8 meter high waves and rough weather with 12-15 meter high waves).
Our first stop in Antarctica was on Half Moon island, one of the South Shetland islands near Livingston. It was quite exciting to see Antarctica for the first time with beautiful glaciers, the rocky coast with chinstrap penguins and lots of birds, such as skuas, seagulls, and sheathbills. Here are our first pics of Antarctica.

Look at the penguin...striking a nice pose for the picture :))

Like whales, penguins eat krills (small pink crustaceans) in the ocean. This explains the redish excrements on the rock

Beautiful and sereine atmosphere in Antarctica

"Antarctica is otherworldly, like nothing I have ever seen before. Stark, cold, beautiful desolation"

Mark Hoppus
