Reunion Island (2)-Piton de la Fournaise/Lava Tunnels

Musee du volcan (de la Fournaise) - Watching a very interesting 3D movie simulating flow of lava in tunnels during an eruption - Very cool!

We are rocking and shaking real time :))

Climbing the Piton de la Fournaise volcano, a very active volcano that erupted at the end of January 2017 and was active for several weeks afterwards.

Picnic at the top

Ready to explore the lava tunnels with a guide

Lava flow in the Grand Brule area (near St Philippe) is visible on the hill - Flow location varies
from year to year. The volcan erupts almost every year.

The entrance to the lava tunnel is not far from the ocean

The tunnels are beautiful and the glassification of the lceiling and walls due to the heat of the lava flow makes them shiny and smooth. The bronze patterns are very sophisticated. The tunnel was several kilometers, but we only walk a fraction of it (600 m).
Equipped appropriately to walk on our knees and protect our head.

Gorgeous ceiling

One tunnel splits into two

Exploring the East coast of the island - lush tropical vegetation

 We kept hydrated!

"Ne dis jamais: Fontaine, je ne boirai jamais de ton eau"

" Je ne vais pas vous preter un baton pour me casser la tete"
