The Myrdal to Flam train ride is the steepest in the world on normal tracks. It is short, about 20 kms with guess how many tunnels? 20! Took 1 day to dig 1 meter of rocks at the time it was built. Hard to take pictures because you are in the dark (while the train is in the tunnel) and never know on which side the scenery will be when you get out of the tunnel :)) I had worked quite hard on this one to get decent pictures. You see a succession of valleys and mountains, with beautiful waterfalls.

Flam is a small town at the end of the Sognefjord. We had reserved a private room in a hostel in Flam. Yes a hostel...with an s. Did not know what to expect since we had not been in a hostel for years :)) Surprise...our room was in a 300 year old beautiful traditional Norwegian red house in a delightful setting at 1.6 km from the town (a nice way to avoid the flock of tourists getting off large cruise boats coming from Bergen). We had a shared kitchen on top of it. Only con, poor overall sound proof and some people were clearly not fully aware of it !!! Back to scenery...you will see the pictures of the fjord below. It is beautiful there. We hiked to waterfalls and other places around, saw the old church and just stared at the scenery doing nothing else. Such a peaceful and serene place! Just my idea of Norway. Next boat trip from Flam to Bergen on the Sognefjord - more than 5 hour journey.
